It's been a long haul, but Sooke council stepped up and approved the Harbourview project, so now we need to know who's still in. In a nutshell here is what was approved: Sooke OCP s. 5.8.4.c Work with the CRD, motorized recreational backcountry users, and other park and trail groups towards establishing a pilot project for motorized recreational users through Harbourview/Sea to Sea Park in order to access backcountry lands beyond the District boundary; The goal of the pilot project is generally to: research, establish, and secure managed tenure for; a) designation of HV main road and connecting trails for OHV roadway access to specified destinations beyond the District boundary, i.e. the lakes; b) a designated route out of the park, e.g. across at Leechtown to Butler Main; c) a designated trail system off-parkland; d) designated off-trail riding areas off-parkland; to reconcile and align conservation objectives with recreational land use objectives in the Capital Regional District. With something like $187,000 in rezoning fees coming, we expect the District to fund this project with CRD money, but just in case, we need to know how much we can raise. The original estimate was 110 people at $155 per pass for the one year term of the project. We originally had pledges totalling about $25,000. Who's in? Let me know on the link below.
