The CRD Harbourview rezoning application is coming on the agenda 7:00pm Monday, Sept. 13 at Sooke Municipal hall 2205 Otter Point Road, Sooke, for introduction, first, & second reads, and scheduling a public hearing. The CRD, Timberwest, and Western Forest Products have all confirmed they have no intention of permitting managed access on any property in the Sooke area. This zoning application is the last chance to negotiate access at HV before it is rezoned as Park, and this application needs to be shut down and sent back to staff to work out access before it gets introduced. www.sooke.ca/EN/main/documents/agendaminutes/documents/Sept1310RegCouncilagendapkg.pdf

Sooke council finally stepped up at the public hearing last night and sent the CRD Park rezoning application back to staff for amendment to include a provision for some form of motorized access to the lakes and provincial park. This is going to result in another eco-media feeding frenzy, so now is the time for the entire off-road community to get behind Janet Evans in Sooke and make sure the enviro-saviours don't beat her into submission like last time. The disussion is on the SIMRAC page: simrac.ca

So I posted my feelings on the Harbourview situation on the SIMRAC site and my posts from the web site have disappeared. I see your site is about as transparent as any one sided view can be. And you wonder why clubs won't help you... The jest of my post was that you are now fighting for 1 road to a lake not a OHV area, a trail you are now trying to use a road easement survey for. If it is deemed a road, ATV's, bikes and any other off-highway vehicle can not use it anyway. If the government deems it a road will it not be required to grade it for public access and liability - so there goes your ATV road. It is best if anything for Sooke to use Harbourview as a bargaining chip for a real OHV area somewhere where a trail system could be put in place. I think your agenda has become your own. Al
