Following our presentations, the majority of the CRD Regional Parks committee voted today to reject the final parks management plan as submitted by parks management.
It was sent back to planning with the direction to prepare a report on 3 points:
1) Designation of off-parkland area
2) Designation of parkland area, specifically Harbourview
3) Both
This effectively reverses the decades long CRD policy excluding motorized recreation from parks planning as an "inappropriate use."
The minutes will show in due course who spoke out in support of off-road recreation, but the leading advocate at the table was Sooke Mayor Janet Evans.
