Interesting read. At least it "sounds" like the AB gov't is on board for helping organize/provide areas where people can still have fun, instead of the outright vehicle prohibition of tree huggin Vancouver Island. Will be interesting to see where this goes. What would be perfect is if they actually manage to end up with solutions etc that please everybody - maybe it would set an example of cooperation for our own caring CRD?
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ;0)

A real mixed bag in Alberta. In Crowsnest pass they just gave the ATV club 800,000 for multi use trails. They tried for just ATV trails but the Gov said all trails must be all access - a win for wheelers. Al V

(...comes WAAAAAY out of hiding....) Alberta land use is approximately where we were on the Island back in say...2000/01 or whenever that was that HV was lost to TLC. Closures catering to quads (vehicles under 800 Lbs) throughout the region are becoming more and more frequent, and less publicized. Area's nailed so far: Waiprous Indian Graves Burnt Timber Crowsnest (bit of a different management district down there...Quad Squad, as Al mentioned above have huge influence, and don't particularily like trucks. For the Governing body to over rule is an odd one) It's only a matter of time before Dutch Creek and McLean Creek are impacted as well. I can't say that I'm well versed in the politics out here....I stopped caring (doing what I want to do, when I want to, how I want to) a LONG time ago. Oh yeah....hi everyone!

...as an aside.....
Quads have the MOST available and designated trail systems in AB.
Quads are also the NUMBER ONE choice for surveyors in AB in the Oil Patch.

i havnt had any problems in gold river yet, but they seem to bat a blind eye on our trail building, but at the same time we dont go building through campsites and other rec areas. I also build mountain bike trails. Ive been able to get everyone on board with not interfering with the bike trails and just sticking to the tire tracks. Seems to work, but in time there could be some bickering on the close to town trails. If there are people trying to find remote wheeling spots, there is hundreds of miles out here that nobody would ever see or hear you.
