The monthly IRC club run will be sunday 9 Jan. Meeting Place will be Mason store at 0930. The trail will be determined by the capability of the trucks that show up. Should be lots of snow so bring warm clothes, drinks and a shovel.
Hope to see you there
Jim

Lori says that the snow in Shawnigan beach estates is hip high. At their house it's over two feet deep. I expect it to be really deep up on the trails Lori asked how many people are going out, their power has been out since Friday AM and phone is out too. So who is goin'?

I tried to make it out to the run...REALLY I DID!!!
I saw Nadine and Jim on their way out...
I got up there a little late, and just thought that I'd find you all, but I was sidetracked with a little Good Samaritan act...
While driving down Mill Bay Rd we saw a minivan that was having troubles getting up their road, so we stopped and towed them up the couple of blocks and into their driveway. Then we asked them if they needed anything else while we were there, like a ride into the village, etc, and then they told us that they were going to check on an elderly lady that is caretaking a cabin on S Shawnigan L and since there hasn't been any power or phones for a few days, they were quite concerned. As they couldn't get to the cabin due to the road conditions, they were more that grateful when we offered to take the bag of supplies to the cabin for them.
We located the cabin, and after hiking up the long, steep driveway, we were gretted by the lady of the house. She was very happy that someone came to her aid (although she said she didn't need it, and said that this 'isolation' brought out the pioneer in her!) and was happy that her friends were thinking of her.
After a trip back into the village to use the payphone and call the people we originally helped to let them know their friend was doing well and was quite happy, we then were able to head up into the woods. This is when we saw Nadine and Jim heading out.
Needless to say we didn't have much time out there, but at least we got out, and made a few of the locals day a little brighter!
<Insert 'pat on the back' here> just kidding!
Maybe next one...

Shoveled - got van unstuck - shoveled - got someone who managed to avoid a clear road to nosedive in the ditch unstuck :0/ Rob - I've got the gear but you get to dive underneath and hook up 9followed by probs finding a tow point) Stuckee - I can't get it threaded (shackle pin) but it'll be alright like that Rob - ummmm, nope - if it isn't hooked up solid, I can't pull you out Stuckee - I've worked on fishing boats and we did stuff like this Rob - if the gear on a fishing boat breaks, it doesn't send a pound of shackle through my window - sorry but if we can't get it rigged, I'm not pulling Stuckee - are you serious? Me - my truck, my gear, your stuck (getting ready to pack up at this point) We did get him out finally, but man people can be thick when you're trying to help Rob

I pulled out my dads full size dodge cummins with my sidekick! his truck had full tire pressure for towing the boat and the stupid electronic throttle keeps kicking in and won't let you lug it to get it going. let off on the clutch and it instantly speeds the throttle up to keep it from lugging and spins the tires! I went to Thriftys on sat. for all my neighbors as they all have long driveways and 2wd vehicles. Our power went out at 5:00am Friday morning and we got about 4 hours on fri night then it went out until sat. night at 7:00. 24 hours straight with no power. I'm sure shane and Lori are still out.

Ah the joys of electricity and telephones.... Thanks Jim for posting the Sunday run....we were definitely unable to access the internet (and the rest of the planet!) until last night. Power went out at about 5:00am on Friday....and remained out until last night (Sunday) at about 4:00pm. Not too bad...only 60hours of power outage! WE had sparatic phone as well. It definitely paid off to have a 6300Watt generator in the shop! :-) Amazing out here that more people don't have the necessary supplies to keep warm, powered up, etc in such a relatively "remote" area as ours. We had fun....felt a bit like Little House on the Prairies for a few days. ALl in all, we faired just fine...managed to get some good tobaggoning in too! Spent the afternoon digging the Matrix out from under 3 feet of snow. Thanks to Brooksy and BigDog for helping pack down the driveway so the car could get to the road (let it there for the night so I can finally get to work in the morning.). Funtimes... Sorry couldn't make it out to the snow run yesterday, but we figured we had enough snow here...we didn't need to go out and find anymore!

Nadine sent me a few great pics - see her scenic one on our home page can4x4.com/irc, and the link to the rest of 'em in the 'Latest news' www.can4x4.com/irc/events/clubrun0105/index.htmI would have been in on the fun too, except I drove up to Masons and turned my engine off, and my battery was stone cold dead. Wasn't sure if it was a crappy connection so I tightened 'em all, got a jump start, and followed the gang to the 'high road'. Still dead. Turned around and had it checked at crappy tire, and sure 'nuf - it was hosed - one cell dead. Musta died on the drive up, though the drive over the 'Hat was pretty uneventful considering the roads were completely clear. I was amazed at the state of the roads and lack of power around Shawnigan. Felt kinda guilty bombing past all those poor shovelers and everyone else with their vehicles buried under three feet of snow. A dude with a plow could have done their duty up there, that's for sure! Maybe the club could earn some brownie points by cruising the neighbourhoods and helping out where possible if they get hit like this again on the weekend. Oh hey, did Brooksey get his camera back? He wasn't far behind me on the way out, so short day for him too. He said he lost it while pulling someone out of the ditch on the way through the village. Here's my contribution to the pics: yeah, I know, no vehicles, no excitement. But if you look closely, you can see my hood latch in the lower right corner....
