OK I know I’m a member, but the picture and write up on our club site is totally out of date. That picture of my hi flying Jeep is four years old and it also crash landed after last year after Moab when the new Jeep took it's place so here are the extensive details:
Registered as a 1980 CJ-7
In reality a 2004 CJ- 7 1/2 took three years to think it out and Almost 2000 hrs to build. Besides the frame - body and engine and the parts I bought I did all the work by myself over 6 months - yes I lived in the garage lost 10 lbs. and cured my Arthritis.
What is a CJ 7 1/2? Well it's a bob-tailed Jeep CJ-8 (Scrambler 104 inch wheel base)
Body by Aqualu - custom designed by me. It’s an aluminum bob tailed CJ-8 body, 45'ed under the doors, rear floor and wheel arches raise 3 inches so the gas tank could be raised and a low lift installed while clearing 46 inch Baja Claws. TJ window frame and in tub wipers.
Matkin's Extreme bob-tailed CJ-8 frame
Black Diamond CJ-8 XCL coil over suspension system - only 5 inches of lift but raise a bit by me. Yup fits 46's
Dual hi-pinion Dana 60 Rockcrusher diffs with 5.13 gears and dual ARB lockers, plus cro-mo 35 spline shafts and Warn drive flanges
Four wheel steering
OTT hi-steer arms front and back & heavy-duty tie-rods.
Rear hydraulic ram for steering with electric controls
Front AGR rock Ram steering system - ram assist.
Engine: AMC 401, balanced, rollerized, Keith Black pistons, heads ported polished and bowled. Somewhere north of 420hp and 485-ft lbs. - stock exhaust manifolds - no room for headers.
Dual friction Centerforce clutch and NV 4500 5 speed tranny
Atlas II transfercase 4.3:1 ratio with twin sticks
Driveshafts (mains and spares by Pat's driveline).
AFCO race radiator mechanical and electric fans.
Holley multi port fuel injection.
On-board air - cage is the air tank
On-board welder
Four point belts
Heated Bestop seats
Oven on exhaust for hot trail food.
Stewart Warner gauges
Twin fuel tanks - one under body - one in the box for 40 gallons and 500 mile range. Both custom built by Aqualu and ribbed inside.
Cage is all 1 3/4 cold rolled tubing - 200 ft. The entire cage from front to tail gate is inter connected and built right behind the tub for dent resistance. Cage surrounds the entire engine and rad. I build and designed the cage
TJ half cab soft-top - the reason for the TJ window frame. It was extended by me to cover the longer bed area.
Two sets of tires
40x13.5x17 Goodyear MTR's on 17x9.5 Allied beadlocks (84 inch wide with these tires)
46x19.5x15 Baja Claws on 15x14 Allied beadlocks ( 94 inches wide with these tires)
Jeep is only 81 inches tall on the 40's 83 inches tall on the 46's
Bestop flares
Warn 9500ti winch and Masterpull superline
Dual Optima Yellow top batteries in a box welded to the floor behind the seats
Front Serious Metal bumper - and that's all I can think of
