Finally got out on Thursday. This was the first time the Jeep moved since last May. I need to get out more I think.
We have our local Toy run next weekend - two weekends in a row - OMG!
Headed out with Geby, Todd, Mike Resh and Mike Richie (Ritchie brother auction owner). Mike Ritchie left his lifted TJ at Todd's shop and jumped in Geby's rig.
We had my Jeep (46's) Geb's (46's) and Mike's (44's). Mike just added nitros to his 400 Chevy but refrained from using it.
We headed up into the Grey Stokes the last run in that area before sledding starts. They pack the trail groomer up the first weekend of December.
Two weeks a ago Geb Todd and Glen headed up and didn't find snow till the Hilton cabin - about 5000 feet plus - a little different this week.
We hit snow about a foot deep around 3500 and it got deep fast. There were no tracks at all - not even sleds heading towards the Hilton so we decided to make a loop up through the old "burn" around the back of the Hilton to get there late afternoon to spark up a fire in the wood stove for dinner.
We veered off from the Hilton trail and headed up a secondary trail into the Burn and the snow was now pushing 3 feet or more but we were still getting good traction and not sinking in much more than a foot or two. We fell into a few creeks along the way as the snow acts as insulation and the water is still flowing below the snow - that's the main reason the sledders stay out till after Dec 1st or so. We didn't need much more than tug straps and we all fell victim to the strap a few times. I ran into some trouble when my clutch slave rod bent and left me with no clutch with some bending and banging it was straight again but starting to get dark. The snow continued to get deeper and it was taking runs of 100-200 feet at a time to pack a trail. We were now sinking in three feet and not hitting the ground. Even though we were still moving the going was getting slow and with it hitting 5PM we were forced to turn around and head back the way we came or be gone till morning. Overall we covered quite a few miles and if it weren’t for darkness and the fact we all said we would be back by 6PM (got home at 9.30) we would have completed the loop, which wasn't more than a mile to go.
Great fun! Burned about 27 gallons round trip. Next time we will head towards McCullock Lake, as the snow level is coming down and the Grey Stokes are now off limits to wheeling (sledders don't like deep tire trenches).

Ok Well these are not from last week but last wintercamp - heck they are snow wheeling! I didn't bring a camera last week - it was my day off. most of these shots are 6 feet of snow or more
