Well, we went up to Weeks Lake on Sunday. Beautiful day for a trip, and our guests enjoyed the ride, but man, the mess up there is downright embarassing.
Thoughtless idiots have virtually clear cut between the lake and where you park, and there's nothing but bottles, cans and garbage laying around everywhere. Friggin tampon applicators, busted glass left and right, 20-inch fir trees have been cut down for firewood, and when we arrived, two separate unattended fires were smouldering away. Some rednecks were parked halfway in the lake, 'fishing' from the box of their pickup that was blasting heavy metal across the lake.
Sorry for the rant, but bringing new wheelers to that area turned out to be a bad idea - it does not reflect well on how our recreational spaces are being treated by the public. The immense pressure the Shawnigan/Renfrew Road/Weeks area is under will ultimately lead to its closure as well - I predict this place is going to get closed and gated like every other south-island area, probably within the year.
