Man just finished this weekends longest trail fix ,,and I a didnt even go wheeling , lol
I was home on Sat night and got a call from dwain (fsjeep on isl4x4) he was out with Chad (owlman ) in His FSJ out in Refrew headin back from a day at the river , and seems the rear axkle shaft in the Jeep decided to leave the vehicle..and head deep into the woods with him ,..
since they only had the TJ left,, the loaded up ,..left the FSJ and headed back to Vic ,, asked if i had a spare shaft ,, (which i didnt) we decided the only way to get this thing home was a complete rear axle swap ,,,
so we loaded up ...the trail ,,tools , jacks, new spare D44 I had ,, and the reast into a trailed and the 3 if use headed back to Renfrew leavein at about 10pm ..
I was along drive back at night ,,,I know we were out say about 10-15 minutes past Ferrie Lake ,,
we gott he to the jeep a think about 1am,we pulled around behind the Jeep ,, and aimed the headlights ,, of course as predicted the Jeep had already been Vandilized ,, 1/4 panel window had been smashed ,, but nothing else appeared to be wrecked or stolen ,,
of course we did have one car approach us ,,,some young local teens ,,,,stopp ,,,stared at us ,, didnt say a word ,,,we paused looked back ,,,,then they asked "got a light" ...yr in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night ,,,seems weird to Me ,,that and of course I had watch the movie "Wrong turn" the night before ,,didnt help
I must say it a big job to change a whole diff in the dark and by headlight power on the side of the road, but by about 3.30am we had it back on its wheel ,, (no read drive shaft, no shocks , but it rolled ,,,thats all that mattered ,,
it was fun watchin the Fsj headin back with no shocks and he bounced down the road ,,, after a few stops to make sure we snugged the u bolts up again ,,and to stretch the legs,, we were back in Sooke having a coffe ,(first one in like 7-8 hrs and MUCH needed) by about 5.30-6
nothing like sun rise on the way home from a trail ride ,
all and all it worked good and could have been alot worse ,, would have hated to have done the job in the rain ,,or up a long crappy trail ,
