Cheers!
Well we have the groundwork in place to hold an event at Apex Alpine near Penticton BC on July long weekend. June 30-July 03. Gear Centre Group has jumped on board as a major sponsor so we can keep costs in check.
We will feature a day of trail rides in the mountains around Apex on Friday plus two days of competitive rock/tank trap four wheeling (Friday & Saturday).
Friday will be tough truck style trail and on Saturday side by side rock drags, which will be spectator friendly. The tough truck and rock drags will favor big trucks
We will have limited registration, as this is our first year putting on an event like this so we want to make sure everything goes well.
The plan is to move this event around each year in BC and Alberta.
Registration cost will be as follows and will be first come first serve:
Trail rides - max 40 trucks:
4x4 and Driver - $50.00
Passengers $25.00 each
Includes: Camping, Saturday night dinner (Pig Roast), t-shirt, dash plaque, ticket for Saturday night draw.
Competition max 30 trucks (suggest 38 inch tires or bigger to be competitive but we will not place restrictions):
Truck and Driver $125.00
Passenger/spotter $25.00 each (or extra guests)
Includes all of the above - plus $100.00 from each vehicle will go 100% towards winner payout. We expect to be able to offer a $1000.00 first prize and good 2nd and third prizes but it will depend on registration.
Given time we will set up unofficial trail rides on Sunday for those who would like to stay and get another trail day in or competitors who want to get a trail in.
Facilities will be rustic (no showers). Camping in a large open area, bathrooms will be available as will be a limited amount of trucked in drinking water. Only one meal is planned but we will be having a BBQ at the rock pit on Saturday for a small cost with proceeds going to a local boys club.
Some accommodations (limited due to the ski hill being closed) will be available at the Ski Resort as will RV hook ups a short distance from the camping area for those who do not want to camp. All at extra cost.
This will be a typical organized event for gear and etiquette. No alcohol on the trails or during the competition - that goes for spectators during the rock drags as well. Vehicles will need to have proper equipment for the trail they plan to run - three trails from easy to hard.
Competitors must have vehicles capable of completing the courses - i.e. proper safety equipment, roll cages, winches, lockers, non-leaking vehicles etc.
More details to come and registration on our web site on May 15th:
