Have you heard the news? Apparently there's some wheelers stuck out in Leechtown that cannot get out due to the 3 ft of snow, carnage, ect, they aren't sure. Rescuers are trying to get to them now.
They said that due to the amount of snow that they are only able to travel by snoeshoes. COME ON!!! Somebody MUST have a light vehicle that they can throw on a set of 44's and air them down to float on the snow. These people could be in serious trouble, as they haven't been heard of since yesterday.
Wish them well............

I just had a call from the T.C about this, asking if I knew anything about it.
I don't, but I called Sooke Search and Rescue, who are currently involved in the rescue effort, and left my number in case they might need any help our club could offer.
Is anyone willing to head out there should the SAR guys phone me back with a request for assistance?
I suppose a couple of sleds would be the best bet, though...

Sounds like two guys managed to hike out, and two others are still in the bush - hope they're okay.... By the sounds of it, the SAR folks are not actually sure whether they were four-wheeling or hiking out there. The TC has an update on their web site: www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/story.html?id=fe957982-a051-401b-a6ee-ff5420327a04&k=96575and CFAX has this: FOUR CAMPERS RESCUED AFTER BEING STRANDED IN SOOKE HILLS BY MONDAY'S SNOW Jan 29, 2008 SEARCH AND RESCUE CREWS HAVE FOUND ALL FOUR MEN WHO WERE STRANDED IN THE SOOKE HILLS BY MONDAY NIGHT'S BLIZZARD. THE FOUR WERE ON A CAMPING TRIP WHEN MONDAY'S SNOW LEFT THEM STRANDED IN A CABIN NEAR LEACH TOWN. THEY TRIED TO RIDE THEIR ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES BACK TO SOOKE BUT THEY BECAME STUCK EARLY THIS MORNING. RESCUE CREWS SAY THAT'S WHEN TWO OF THE MEN DECIDED TO HIKE BACK INTO SOOKE WHILE THE OTHER TWO WENT BACK TO THE CABIN. THE TWO HIKING BACK INTO SOOKE WERE ABLE TO DIAL 9-1-1 ONCE THEY WERE BACK IN CELL PHONE RANGE. THEY WERE MET BY RESCUERS A FEW HOURS LATER. ONE OF THE HIKERS IS SAID TO HAVE SUFFERED FROSTBITE INJURIES TO HIS FEET. THE OTHER MAN, WHO IS NOT SAID TO HAVE SUFFERED ANY INJURIES, LED RESCUE CREWS BACK INTO THE WOODS TO THE CABIN WHERE THE TWO REMAINING CAMPERS WERE SAFELY RECOVERED.

A-Channel story about this episode - shows the rescuer 4-wheelers (White Knuckle Off-Roaders) in a great light. Way to go, guys! Glad everyone's safe. members.shaw.ca/rebelrobbo/A-Channel_fixed.wmvMy Island4x4 account can't post yet, so if someone can pass along this link over in their thread, there's a bunch of guys that want to see it. Thanks!
