I just picked up a J10 and its fairly decent so I am wanting to prep the body for paint but not sure what to go with. Anyone have any recommendations as to what to buy and what to stay away from? I have used the stuff napa mixes up but I dont really know how good it actually is because I had it put in spray cans. I plan to use a proper gun so whats a guy to use? I have some books on paint and body but they all talk about "house of colors". This will be my pavement princess/camping rig/dirtbike hauler. I dont want to spend huge on paint, but I want it to look clean. Lets hear it

House of Colours is high end paint that's used a lot by hot rodders and custom bike builders. Not to say it isn't good for other rigs but you'll pay more than ya want to for a daily use truck I think. Figure out what colour ya want first (price varies by colour as different ones take differently priced toners etc. Then price out different brands. PPG is pretty good stuff, so is Dupont. Maybe get them to add flex agent to it - helps cut down on chips etc and may be the difference between a simple dent and cracking the finish "when" ya brush up against something. Al's done a few backyard paint jobs lately and might have some pricing info for ya as well - my experience is pretty dated ;0) The difference in the job is all about the prep work Colour changes are a LOT of extra work Use quality primers etc Runs can be sanded/buffed out Rob

I'm using awlgrip paint on the 65 Kenworth hard to work with but you never need to wax it. The paint is 3 part's epoxy very strong paint you need to wear fresh air mask/ supply air/ to paint it and good heat.

Hey this is some good info for sure, thanks for all the input guys! I still have some time as I have a crapload of work ahead of me now...I am doing a complete drivetrain and suspension swap, prep and paint the engine compartment while the motor is out, then get to the body work and paint. I am excited to see progress.
cheers Dwain
